Sex-for-job claim: Minority women caucus boycotts meeting with protesters

Women on the minority side of parliament have boycotted a planned meeting with an aggrieved women’s group protesting the misogynistic comments made by Kennedy Agyepong.

The irate women hailing from the Central region want the leadership of Parliament to punish the Assin Central MP for claiming that Mrs. Charlotte Osei exchanged sex for her appointment as EC boss.

They appeared in parliament clad in red and held placards expressing their resentment towards the comment of the maverick politician.

The meeting was however attended by the women on the majority side of the House, Tuesday afternoon.

The attack by Mr. Agyepong has been widely condemned by many Ghanaians including civil society groups.

Foreign Affairs minister Hanna Tetteh and her colleague minister Nana Oye Lithur are among key government personalities who have condemned the remarks.

Last week, another women’s group held a street protest in Koforidua in the Eastern region to condemn the attack.

Mr. Agyepong, however, remains unrepentant threatening that he will say more against the EC boss if people continue to dare him.
