The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission(EC) has strangely defended the shake-up at the Commission’s Headquarters in Accra which has seen the transfer of some key officials.
Head of Communications at the EC, Eric Dzakpasu has been moved to the Volta Region.
The former head of the EC’s Public Affairs Department is now the Deputy Volta Regional Director.
Mr Kofi Dzakpasu is one of the over 30 officers to be affected by the mass transfer.
The exercise which the EC says is purely for administrative purposes will see the re-alignment of some departments and units of the Commission.
The EC Boss in an interview said the changes are in the best interest of the Commission.
“The EC reserves the right to do transfers of its officers as it deems fit and if you look at the whole transfers, assignments, and promotions it is not really a shakeup. We’ve had reasons to appoint people to the position of Acting Director and deputy Directors pending interview by the Commission and the Public Services Commission.
She added: “So there are some movements here and there, we’ve come in it’s been in almost eight months and we’ve been on the ground and assessed the situation and I think what we are doing is in the best interest of the commission. We are finding and making sure that we put round pegs in round holes and square pegs in square holes to ensure that efficiency.”
