Sharp division among community members impedes development

Janga(N/R), June 1, GNA - The sharp division among the people of Janga and its surrounding communities in the West Mamprusi District in the aftermath of Election 2004 is impeding development of the area. The division has been so great that it has turned villages, families and brothers against one another. Families are not on talking terms with each other and, therefore, cannot sit together to share ideas to plan for the development of the community.

Mr Yakubu Abdul-Kafaru, Greater Accra branch Chairman of the Janga Youth Association, made these observations when the Association donated seven hospital beds and mattresses valued at 24.5 million cedis to the Janga Health Centre at Janga on Saturday.

He observed that development projects in the community had either been suspended or abandoned due to political differences.

He, therefore, urged the political leaders in the area to exercise restraint and provide the needed leadership by promoting good relations with their political opponents for their followers to emulate them. Mr Abdul-Kafaru appealed to the chiefs, elders, the National President of the Association and the Member of Parliament for the area to invite all the parties involved to a meeting to iron out their differences. Mr Samuel Sumani Nayina, National President of the Association, who added his voice to the appeal for peace and unity, said the people had participated and comported themselves well in all the previous elections and wondered why the 2004 elections could cause so much pain to the extent of threatening the peace of the area.

Mr Alidu Zakari, the Member of Parliament, pledged to work hard to bring unity among the people adding that since he had been elected as their representative, it was his duty to promote unity and development in the area. 1 June 05
