Ghanaian dancehall musician, Shatta Wale, has hit back at critics who questioned his call for the release of embattled socialite Abu Trica.

Taking to Facebook, Shatta Wale dismissed individuals fixated on his statements about Abu Trica, lambasting them for what he described as misplaced priorities in Ghana’s music industry.

"You didn't see me pray with my fans when I was on stage, but you heard me talk about Abu Trica, right? The foolishness in the music industry is the reason the government doesn't take us seriously. Time wasters," he wrote.

Nana Romeo slams Kwaw Kese and Shatta Wale over comments on Abu Trica’s case

Background

The controversy began after Shatta Wale appealed during his performance at the Gomoa Street Carnival on April 5, 2026, where he led sections of the crowd in chants calling for Abu Trica's freedom.

Critics, including media personality Nana Romeo, strongly condemned both Shatta Wale and his colleague, Kwaw Kese, describing their remarks as irresponsible and unhelpful.

Abu Trica, real name Frederick Kumi, is currently facing possible extradition to the United States over his alleged involvement in an $8 million online romance scam.

The Gbese District Court has approved the extradition request, though his legal team, led by Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has 15 days to challenge the ruling, arguing that the charges of wire fraud and money laundering are not covered under the 1931 extradition treaty between Ghana and the US.
