Shatta Wale slams critics over outfit choice at World Cup raffle launch

Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has fired at critics who questioned his choice of outfit during his appearance at the official launch of the Ghana World Cup Raffle, held at the Ministry of Finance headquarters.

At the event, the Dancehall artiste 'served' a full all-black, “street-king” look, featuring a black baseball cap, dark shades, a simple short-sleeve T-shirt, and shiny leather-look trousers, topped off with custom-made chunky pendants.

However, the outfit drew criticism from some netizens, who felt his style did not suit the occasion, especially as other musicians present opted for more formal looks such as kaftans and suits.

Responding to the social media commentary during a live session, while his song “Yawa Ni” played in the background, Shatta Wale said that no one can dictate how he dresses.

According to him, his fashion choices are a reflection of the lifestyle and image tied to the music he makes.

“I live my life with the music I sing. We chose street over bow tie. Nobody can force me to wear a suit. If I wake up and feel this is what I will wear, I will wear it. You dress the way you want to be addressed. Nobody will see a VVS on my neck and address me anyhow. That’s very costly, that’s thousands of dollars on my neck,” he said.

The Ghana World Cup Fundraising Committee officially launched the Ghana World Cup Raffle at the Ministry of Finance headquarters in Accra on March 17, 2026, as part of efforts to rally national support for the Black Stars ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

The event brought together a number of dignitaries and celebrities, including musicians Akwaboah, Stonebwoy, Nacee, and Kweku Flick, among others.
