The Director of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Colonel Nimo has asked the media to show some amount of courtesy and respect for the military by contacting the appropriate authorities on matters about them before publishing or broadcasting.
Colonel Nimo was speaking to ADM yesterday in reaction to a publication that soldiers who were detailed to keep guard over the royal Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, have turned the Palace into brothel.
He noted that the Ghana Armed Forces acknowledges the importance of the media and therefore keeps all doors open to them; the media should also see the importance of GAF and seek their side on issues about them.
"Please we are not saying don't publish things about us, but please get our side of the story also", he said.
He was not happy with the fact that the author of the publication spoke to the "prostitute" making the allegation alone, without cross checking with the military authorities.
Though investigations are yet to be conducted, he told ADM, "If after the investigations it's not true, you have not only caused harm to the Ghana Armed Forces but also led people to lose trust in us".
Colonel Nimo noted that GAF would conduct immediate investigations into the matter and bring the culprits, if any, to book.
He said as a human institution, its members are not infallible but all the same, the institution would not allow any such acts to tarnish the image of the GAF.
"We have built a good reputation, not only in Ghana but the whole of Africa and the world and we would not sit down for our name to be dragged into the mud", he concluded.
