Media personality Abeiku Santana has issued a stern warning to prominent figures, including former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev Professor Emmanuel Martey, against criticising President-elect John Dramani Mahama once he assumes office.
According to Abeiku Santana, Prof. Martey was highly critical of Mahama during his previous presidency but remained largely silent during President Akufo-Addo’s administration.
He also aimed at the Council of State, accusing its members of failing to hold the Akufo-Addo government accountable while being vocal against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) when in power.
“Council of State, Prof. Martey, we are waiting to see if you will talk when Mahama takes office. All those who were silent during Akufo-Addo’s eight years, when Mahama comes to power, they should shut up and sit somewhere. If you open your mouth, the youth will deal with you because some prominent people are losing their respect,” Abeiku Santana fumed.
This statement comes as Prof. Martey, who has a history of speaking against governments, refrained from engaging in national political discourse since President Akufo-Addo’s tenure began.
It is also worth recalling that in 2016, Prof. Martey made headlines when he revealed that some politicians had attempted to bribe him with $100,000, a mansion at Trasaaco, and a V8 vehicle, among other incentives, in exchange for his silence.
Although he refused to name the individuals involved, his claims sparked public backlash toward the then-Mahama administration, a controversy that many believe contributed to the NDC’s loss in the 2016 elections.
