The Osu Traditional Council has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo to expedite the approval of the Anti-LGBT+ Bill, warning that any delays could bring the wrath of God upon Ghana.

This appeal comes amid plans by the bill's proponents to protest against the Chief Justice on August 21, 2024, due to allegations that she is delaying the bill’s transmission to the President for his assent.

Nuumo Gbelenfo III, the Acting President of the Osu Traditional Council, addressed the issue during a courtesy call by the bill’s supporters.

He emphasised the urgency of the matter, cautioning against further delays in the approval process. Nuumo Gbelenfo III warned that timely action is crucial to avoid potential divine repercussions on the nation.

The bill's proponents, frustrated by the perceived lack of progress, are organising a protest to voice their concerns. They allege that the Chief Justice has been instrumental in stalling the bill’s passage, leading to growing impatience among its supporters.

In his address, Nuumo Gbelenfo III reiterated the council’s stance and urged swift action from both the President and the Chief Justice. He highlighted the importance of aligning legal frameworks with the cultural and moral values of society and called on the authorities to heed the council’s warning by expediting the bill’s approval.

“If it were the norm that marriage was between people of the same sex, we would have seen our president marry a man. But that is not the case. So I am appealing to the president to ensure that the right thing is done by signing the bill into law to prevent Ghana from incurring the wrath of God,” he stated. “It is a filthy practice, so we are urging the president and the Chief Justice to do the needful to avert the anger of God,” he added.
