Former Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, has disclosed that his decision not to openly support any candidate in the party’s elections is because he wants to be a responsible elder.

According to him, the number of respected elders in the party keeps dwindling because most persons in the party have chosen sides.

Therefore, it is imperative that he stays away from the elections so that when issues arise, his opinion will be respected and will help address issues.

Simon Osei Mensah spoke on Accra-based OKAY FM.

“When the party issued guidelines for the party’s internal elections, I openly said, aside from from the flagbearership, I will not openly support any candidate. I have realized that the respected elders in the party keeps reducing and it is because of elections.

"I decided not to support any candidate in the party's internal elections because I have realized that when you do that, you are unable to objectively address issues in the party. This is because they will think that, because you supported one party against them, you can't be objective. So I decided that this time around, I will not support anyone," he explained.
