Agona Swedru, May 2, GNA - Reverend Professor Samuel K. Adjepong, Chairman of the National Africa Peer Review Mechanism Governing Council (NAPRM-GC) has inaugurated oversight committees of the six districts of the Central Region at a ceremony in Agona Swedru.

The Districts are Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, Gomoa East and West, Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, Agona East and Agona West Municipal. Rev Prof. Adjepong said the rational for Ghana to join the Africa Peer Review Mechanism was to strengthening its democratic progress, corporate governance, socio-economic development and quality economic governance.

He said the time has come for Africans to stop relying on Europeans, Asians and the western worlds for financial supports and economic prospects.

The Chairman pointed out that frequent overthrow of governments and bad governance in Africa, had brought untold economic hardship on the people of the continent.

" If constant interruption of government and bad administration on the part some Africa leaders are not halted, diseases, hunger, poverty, economic woes and human rights abuse would continue to live with us, " Rev Prof Adjepong said.

He said the NAPRM is purely non political and urged committee members to discharge their duties diligently to enhance truthful democracy and economic emancipation. Rev Prof. Adjepong charged the members to sensitize and educate their respective districts members about the importance APRM to the citizenry.

Mr Felix Jacob Obeng-Forson, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, said the APRM was to ensure that policies and practices conform to political, economic and corporate governance of the country. He charged the oversight committee members to do everything possible to promote and collaborate with various district, municipal and metropolitan assemblies to ensure the total development of the people.
