Six persons aboard two different vehicles reportedly sustained injuries on Friday night when their vehicles plunged into a section of a bridge near the Fosu Lagoon in Cape Coast that had caved in.

The accident occurred at about 2100 hours, when the two vehicles, a Golf Taxi and a Nissan Serena Minivan, both occupied by four people each were heading towards Cape Coast for the Fetu Afahye Celebration.

According to an eye witness, the two drivers, believed to be visitors, were unaware that a section of the bridge had caved in, coupled with the fact that, the streetlight was off at that moment.

“So it was only until they reached the affected area that they noticed the condition of the bridge and possibly the warning signs. It was then too late” the eye witness told the press on Saturday morning.

He said he tried fervently to warn the taxi driver of the danger ahead, but the driver seemed not to have understood his signals.

However two other passengers aboard the vehicles, who were unhurt, were said to have changed their clothes and continued their journey shortly after the incident, whiles the injured were rushed to a hospital, he could not name.

As at Saturday morning, the taxi which fell on the minivan in the ditch had been moved aside but the minivan was yet to be pulled out.

Vice President Paa Kwesi Ammisah Arthur, who was in Cape Coast for the festival, visited the scene with Mr. Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, Central Regional Minister, Mr. Ebo Barton Odro and Mr. Kweku Ricketts- Hagan, Members of Parliament for Cape Coast North and South respectively, as well as the Mayor of Cape Coast, Mrs. Pricilla Arhin Korankye.
