The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested six (6) suspected armed robbers terrorizing residents in the New Juaben Municipality.
The suspects are; Emmanuel Amoah(23), Twumasi Samuel (30) ,Kwasi Sokpo ,25. The other accomplices are Daniel Bekoe,29, computer technician, Divine Modzaka, 27, a phone repairer and Edward Nketia, 20.
One of the suspects Richard Obeng alias Music Man, a taxi driver is however on the run. Several stolen items including eight laptops, mobile phones, mask, metal big crow bar, harmer, and two Bibles have been retrieved from the suspects.
Briefing the media at the Eastern regional Police Headquarters on Monday,the Deputy Eastern regional Police Commander, ACP Nuhu Jango explained the New Juaben Municipality has recorded a number of residential robberies for the past four weeks hence laid surveillance, intensified both day and night patrols while gathering intelligent about the suspects.
He said police identified ‘Evelyn Spot ‘ as hideout for the suspects who mostly hang out there to peddle in drugs .
According to ACP Nuhu Jango, on February 2,2017,at midnight ,the regional Police Patrol team led by ASP George Mills raided the spot where eight (8) young men were seen smoking marijuana. Three of the suspects Emmanuel Amoah,Twumasi Samuel and Kwasi Sokpo were arrested whiles the others escaped from arrest.
He said on the same day ,the Effiduase District Police Command received information that a house located at Asokorekuma has been attacked by three armed men who managed to abscond with 4 HP laptops ,a motorola mobile phone ,one CCIT mobile phone,a Motorola S mobile phone ,a Sumsung Phone ,a Multi -TV decorder ,LG Plasma television with total worth of ghc6,800 and a cash of Ghc500 .
He said, based on Police intelligence, suspect Daniel Bekoe, a computer repairer was arrested at Pentuawala, suburb of Koforidua during which police retrieved two(2) HP Laptops which were part of the stolen items when a search was conducted at his shop (U-NET).
The Deputy Regional Police Commander said, upon interrogation, Bekoe named Devine Modzaka as the suspect who brought the HP laptops for decoding as a result of the passwords on them, hence Modzaka was quickly arrested but also mentioned suspect Richard Obeng now at large, as the one who brought the times to him.
He said, suspect Richard Obeng, a taxi driver of Opel Astra Caravan with registration number GT4869-V abandoned his Car when he police closed on him for arrest but later sent Edward Nketia to drive his vehicle to him at his hideout, however, Edward was arrested by Police officers who have laid surveillance around the abandoned taxi cab.
Police therein confiscated the taxi and retrieved three black masks concealed in a letter box . Further search in the room of suspect Obeng at water Works area in the presence of his mother led to further retrieval of a metal big crow bar and a Hammer believe to be implements used for their operations.
Later police retrieved industrial cutter at a nearby Bush at Old Estate where Obeng was hidden. Currently a manhunt has been launched for his arrest as well as two others.
Residents of Koforidua who have been victims of robbery and burglary are expected to report at the regional police headquarters to identify the suspects.
