Sixth EU Micro Projects for West Akyem

Asamankese, Dec. 13, GNA - The West Akyem District Chief Executive, Mr Kwabena Sintim-Aboagye, has said the sixth European Union Micro Project would soon take off in the district and a total amount of 1.344 billion cedis has been earmarked for the programme.

The district assembly will be contributing a total of 4.49 million cedis as its counterpart funding.

He urged assembly members whose communities would be benefiting from the programme to take interest in it and together with members of the community offer assistance that might be necessary for the smooth completion of those projects.

Mr Sintim-Aboagye said the people of Brekumanso would soon benefit from a school next year to be financed by the US government. The school would include six classrooms, offices, store, toilet and urinal facilities and a library.

Mr Sintim-Aboagye said the Department of Feeder roads had awarded on contract 117-kilometre roads in the district for reshaping and work was expected to start in January 2007.

He said the assembly's projected Common Fund for 2006 was 6.174 billion cedis but the actual amount of money received as of the third quarter was a little over 3.215 billion cedis. The amount had been used to pay for projects and programmes in the district.

Mr Sintim-Aboagye said the assembly, by the end of September 2006, had collected 1.428 billion cedis, representing 89 percent in terms of expected internally generated revenue.

He thanked revenue collectors for their hard work and hoped they would strive to even do better so that the assembly could double its target for the year.
