A small scale miner, Emmanuel Nana Ansah, 29, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for attempting to defile a 13 year-old girl by the Tarkwa Circuit Court.

He was convicted on his own plea.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant, Awudu Sallami is a small scale miner and related to the victim who lives at Aboso in the same vicinity with the convict.

Inspector Amponsah said because of the close friendship between the complainant and Nana Ansah, it permitted him to stay with the complainant for almost one year.

About a month ago, the convict moved from the complainant’s house and joined other friends in the town, but he used to visit the complainant’s house anytime he wishes.

He said Nana Ansah on his usual visit had sexual intercourse on two occasions with the victim, but due to fear, the victim did not disclose her ordeal to the parents.

On Sunday May 19, this year, at about 2330 hours, Nana Ansah visited the complainant’s house, entered the victim’s room and attempted to have sexual intercourse with her.

Inspector Amponsah said the complainant, who saw the convict entering the room, confronted him as to what he was looking for, but he could not give any tangible reason.

According to the prosecutor, the victim revealed to the complainant that Nana Ansah attempted to have sexual intercourse with her.

He was arrested by the complainant and his brothers and was handed over to the Police.

He said Nana Ansah at the initial stage denied the offense, but a medical report indicated that the victim had been defiled.
