Smith’s 67 ‘Kids’ Pass Out Morrow.

Mon, 6 Dec 2010 Source: DAYBREAK

The sixty seven (67) brilliant ‘kids’ of Defence Minister, Lt. General Joseph Henry Smith who were illegally smuggled into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) are passing out tomorrow ,Wednesday December 8, 2010 with the rank of privates in the Ghana Armed Forces.

The Minister, on Wednesday, 10th June 2009 stated on the floor of Parliament that he and the Military High Command depended on “… persistent complaints from the general public” without facts to suspend the training of 420 Ghanaians from all ten regions of Ghana. Yet, interestingly, with facts before him that 67 out of the 453 did not qualify to be in the highly esteemed Ghana Armed Forces, he refused to act.

In the case of the 420 potential recruits last year, Smith was quick to state that only 228 passed for training while in his own words the “remaining 192 were illegally inserted”.

According to our Military Intelligence (MI) sources, many officers of the GAF are at a loss as to why the 228 who passed were not allowed to train and the sudden U-turn by General Smith when evidence abound that these 67 persons were not qualified thanks to a letter written by Col .JKT Caesar on the 20th of July 2010 with reference number GHQ/2034/801/RECS when these persons reported for training on 1st of July 2010 and should have being sacked.

“It shows how two faced he is….what annoyed some of us is that they have regimental numbers too and Smith, the Preacher of non politics in the Military, is bringing it into the service. Some of us are quiet but the Mercedes Benz importation when he was Army Commander is still fresh on our minds and when we come out with it, it is going to be a bomb. What of the 288 kids?….Do you know the pains and trauma they and their parents went through to get the things needed for training”, one MI sources said.

On the cheeky excuse given that last year’s exercise was suspended because of the persistent complaints from the general public, another MI source noted that “concerning the persistent complaints by the general public on the anomalies, the Minister could not prove to the whole nation the names of the complainants, nature of complaints, when the complaints were made, to whom the complaints were made, records of receipt of complaints, officer in charge of complaints and evidence provided by complainants on the of nature of complaints. Yet, Smith wants us to believe his trash?”

He continued that with 67 out of the 453 potential recruits being unqualified, it was very necessary for Gen. Smith and the Military High Command to suspend the entire training.

“This will be a mark of good faith in order to preserve the integrity of the GAF and ensure that its men do not become a danger to the citizenry.”
