  • Kofi Apraku Konadu (NPP – Offinso North) regained his seat
  • The NPP has made dramatic gains in the strongholds of the NDC in the Brong Ahafo, Central, Eastern, Western and Greater Accra Regions. It won constituencies it lost in 1992 and 1996 and consolidated its gains in its traditional stronghold, the Ashanti Region.
  • With ballots counted in 135 of the 200 constituencies, John Agyekum Kuffuor had 51 percent of Thursday's vote, compared to 43 percent for Vice President John Atta Mills, the president's hoped-for successor. Five other candidates took only a small percentage of the vote counted so far.

  • NDC received 329,598 votes from 12 constituencies in the Volta Region while NPP received 21,676 votes thus giving a shortfall 307,922
  • NPP received 415,070 from 12 constituencies in the Ashanti Region while NDC received 117,012 votes thus giving a short fall 298,058 votes
  • Despite the higher figures the NPP received in Ashanti, the votes the NDC received in the Volta Region have to some extent cancelled them.
  • Results for the seven remaining constituencies in the Volta Region and 21 in Ashanti Region are being awaited

  • Mr Ebenezer Kwabena Fosu (NDC), former Minister of Works and Housing, lost his Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa seat.

  • 16 constituencies declared so far are all in urban centers where the NPP was expected to do well.
  • outcome hinges on results from the rural heartland -- Rawlings' traditional support base -- but these will be slow in coming.
