The Social Justice Movement (SJM) Ghana, on Sunday condemned the violence perpetrated against some people during the the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

It, therefore, called on the security and law enforcement agencies to investigate and bring the perpetrators to book.

A statement jointly signed by Mr Richard Asueme and Mr Aidan Adongo, the Movement’s interim leaders, and copied to the press in Bolgatanga, said: “To the best of our knowledge, so far, no arrest has been made to ascertain which group or vigilante was going to cause any problems with the election.”

“That is why we vehemently condemn the violence and call on all peace-loving Ghanaians to do the same.”

“The SJM denounces these dastardly and cowardly acts,” the statement said, and called on the security and law enforcement agencies to investigate the horrific incident at the La-Bawaleshie Presby JHS polling station, unmask the unseen faces behind it and punish the culprits to serve as a strong deterrent against its repetition in the future.

It said profit was the driving force behind the activities of politicians and their counterparts in the economic sector both locally and internationally.

“It is for this reason that the SJM would not stop at condemning the politicians and appeal to members of the public to refuse to be used in the power game of the NPP and the NDC…,” it said.

The statement appealed to progressive Ghanaian groups and individuals to unite on a common platform to oppose capitalism or free enterprise system that does not guarantee better lives for the working people.

It called on progress forces to work together towards a socialist society to prevent exploitation and economic deprivation, which bred violence.
