Henry Ametefe, the newly elected Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region has observed that social media was negatively affecting the activities of the Party and called on supporters to be circumspect with its use.
Mr Ametefe who was addressing party faithful after he was sworn in as chairman of the Party on Sunday, said social media had been "infested with too much character assassination. Too much indiscipline”, and “disruptive” of the achievements of the Party and must be watched.
“Today the battle line is drawn between us and the NPP. They are destroying the beauty of our Democracy. All of you must come on board. The youth must collapse their social media that is full of attacks... social media is destroying the Party”, Mr Ametefe stated.
He said social media platforms were meant to help develop the youth and help them appreciate good governance yet that was not happening and that stakeholders needed to address the situation through responsible education.
Mr Ametefe said the, “Region is now solid”, for NDC ahead of the 2020 general elections and called for support from all.
He secured 310 out of the 603 valid votes cast at the Party's regional elections held to fill vacant executive positions following the creation of Oti region.
Mr George Loh, a former Member of Parliament for South Day was elected Vice Chairman.
He also called on all party members to work harder and keep the Region as the stronghold of the NDC and win the 2020 elections.
