Softcare FM Ghana, a leading local manufacturer of feminine hygiene products, has been awarded first place in the manufacturing sector and sixth overall among Ghana’s top 100 companies at the 21st Ghana Club 100 Awards.
Organised by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), the event took place on October 25, 2024, at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, recognising outstanding Ghanaian businesses for excellence in corporate governance, financial performance, and contributions to the economy.
Softcare FM Ghana’s achievement in the manufacturing sector underscores its reputation for producing high-quality feminine hygiene products, including baby diapers, baby wipes, and sanitary pads.
The company's commitment to customer health and safety, as well as its dedication to improving the lives of women and children, has cemented its role as a key player in the hygiene sector, both within Ghana and across the African continent.
Accepting the award, Jasper Archer, Softcare FM Ghana’s Commercial Director, highlighted the company's focus on creating a positive impact beyond just product provision.
“At Softcare, we understand that our responsibility extends beyond our products. We are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of women and children, promoting the health and hygiene of girls across Ghana and Africa,” he told the media.
Softcare FM Ghana’s focus on locally produced, affordable products has helped to boost consumer pride and demand for "Made in Ghana" goods, reinforcing the industry's importance.
Softcare FM Ghana joins prestigious companies like Newmont, Goldfields, and MTN in being recognised at the Ghana Club 100 Awards. By celebrating these achievements, the awards encourage other companies to innovate and expand their business practices, contributing to Ghana’s economic growth and fostering resilience in the private sector.
The Ghana Club 100 Awards, first introduced in 1998, celebrate excellence in Ghana’s private sector, particularly businesses demonstrating strong corporate governance, financial resilience, and economic contributions.
This year’s theme; ‘Fostering Domestic Champions: Building Local Capacity,’ aligns with the GIPC’s mission to inspire Ghanaian businesses to raise the bar in corporate governance and social responsibility.
The awards serve as a benchmark for excellence, encouraging companies to adopt innovative practices that contribute to national growth.
Additionally, Ghana’s baby diaper and sanitary pad industry has grown into a significant economic contributor, employing over 5,000 people directly and indirectly. This sector not only meets local demand for high-quality hygiene products but also builds a skilled workforce with specialized technical abilities, bolstering the national economy.
Despite its success, the industry faces challenges in aligning production capacity with market demand. With a capacity of up to 2.5 billion diapers annually, the domestic demand is around 900 million, highlighting a significant underutilization of resources.
This gap underscores the need for policy measures to support domestic manufacturers and address issues like port smuggling and product dumping, which undermine market stability.
