Sokoban-Ampabame gets new classroom block

A GH¢ 280,000 classroom block built to provide more space for increased enrolment by the Methodist model school at Sokoban-Ampabame in Kumasi has been inaugurated.

The Rt Rev Prof Osei Safo-Kantanka, the Methodist Bishop of Kumasi, said everybody has a contribution to make to develop and improve the quality of education and appealed to people to accept to put education “on top of their priority list”.

The six-classroom structure, which comes with an office, library and a store, is a donation by the children of the late Ashanti Regional Manager of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Mr. Jacob Bonful, and spouse, Mrs Elizabeth Bonful.

The Rt. Rev Prof Safo-Kantanka, performing the inaugural ceremony, said it was a fitting memorial to the deceased couple who, as teachers, showed passion and strong belief in education.

He said the church would continue to focus on youth training and development because that was the way to assist them to become useful to themselves and society.

“To the church, the goal is not only to achieve academic excellence but also character training to bring up honest people, who can be trusted with the nation’s future,” he said.

The Diocesan Bishop told the children “You have immortalized your father and mother by building this model school in their honour”.

The Very Rev Christopher Nyarko Andam, the Diocesan Synod Secretary, said it was a good example to the rest of the society.
