Abono (Ash), April 16, GNA- The timely intervention of the military who provided security at the Lake Bosomtwe resort at Abono in Ashanti on Easter Monday, saved revellers from losing their items including mobile phones and watches when some unscrupulous people besieged the resort.

The soldiers, numbering about 30, arrested three people for snatching mobile phones and seized 19 motorbikes, some of which had no registered numbers, while some of the riders also did not have licenses. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Abono, Lieutenant Peter Akozele, who led the soldiers, said at about 1620 hours, his men arrested 25-year-old Shaibu Nurudeen, an electrician from Asawasi-Royal in Kumasi who stabbed a young man in the stomach during an exchange of words and had to be rushed to the Kuntanase Hospital.

He said one Yaw Frimpong, 18, was also arrested for stabbing Osei Bonsu, 20, on his back and cheek.

Lt Akozele said the soldiers also arrested one Yaw Bonna, a car washer at Asafo in Kumasi for snatching the mobile phone of one Yaa Boatemaa with whom he was dancing.

He therefore ordered the holidaymakers to leave the resort at about 1730 hours and explained that was the prudent measure to save the situation.

Lt Akozele said the order was also to save them from the hands of armed robbers who operated under the cover of darkness.
