Some 20 best teachers in Ashanti Region honoured

Kumasi, Sept 11, GNA- Twenty teachers from primary, junior and senior secondary schools and training colleges in Ashanti Region have been honoured and presented with electrical appliances as their prizes. The award winners, including non-teaching staff took home television sets, refrigerators, standing fans and ghetto blasters.

Miss Monica Ofori of Nsutem Presbyterian school in the Sekyere West District came first in the primary division and was followed by Miss Georgina Achiaa of Ejisu Catholic and Miss Christiana Djameshie of Nkwanta who placed third.

Miss Harriet Osam of Juaso Local Authority came first in the JSS division while Mr Emmanuel Obeng of Bekwai Anglican placed second. In the SSS division Mr Jack Kennedy Brobbey of Prempeh College came first, Mr Edward Larbi-Kumi of Kumasi High School was second and while Mr H.H. Kwame Ayisah of Kumasi Armed Forces Secondary/Technical was placed third.

Mr Asante Boahene and Madam Theresa Kwakyewaa, all of Kumasi Saint Louis Teacher Training College placed first and second respectively in the teacher training division.

Mr A. Kofi Britwum, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, said teachers have distinguished themselves in most sectors of national development and it is important for the nation to appreciate and recognise their immense contributions.

Mr Asamoah Duodu, Principal of Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI), stressed the importance of technical education in the country's development and appealed to organisers of the best teachers awards, to extend the scheme to teachers in technical institutions.
