Minority Chief Whip in Ghana’s Parliament, Mohammed Mubaraka Muntaka says President Akufo Addo’s decision to create and maintain some ministries is a huge drain on state coffers.
According to him, Ministries such as Special Development, Monitoring, and Evaluation, Regional Reorganisation and Development, Planning and Procurement are a ‘complete waste’.
Speaking on Kumasi based Ultimate FM, Hon. Muntaka who’s also the Member of Parliament for Asawase wondered why President Akufo Addo will continue to keep Ministry for Regional Reorganisation and Development when the creation of new regions has been concluded.
“These issues I’m raising have got nothing to do with the ministers in person but the ministries. Ministry of Planning for me is a hopeless ministry, what is the National Development Planning Commission doing? so why should we have a Minister for Planning? Ministry for Planning and Evaluation, what is that? It’s like we are making a joke of Ghana. This ministry is not needed. These ministries are complete was.”
He further noted that some ministeries are also a duplication of others and overlap in the discharge of their mandate.
