Some people are trying to hack your systems; be on guard and stop them – NPP to EC

The Director of Elections for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Evans Nimako, has advised the Electoral Commission (EC) to strengthen its electoral systems to prevent people from hacking them.

He advised the Commission on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, which was held to address concerns raised regarding the voters’ register.

He brought to the attention of the IT team at the EC to be on guard and strengthen their systems to prevent hackers from accessing them.

“I would also want to bring this to the attention of the IT that you should still be mindful of people trying to get access into your systems the EC’s systems so they would hack it. Be mindful of that.

He also asked the electoral body to provide the political parties with a specific number of polling stations so it would help them, especially the NPP, to plan for the upcoming elections.

“That there are about 40,000+ polling stations, we want to have the specific numbers so that it would help with our planning arrangements towards the D-Day.

He commended the EC for meeting with the political parties to help address the issues raised.

He pointed out that per their observation of elections in other countries such as Nigeria and Kenya, their electoral bodies did similar activities, which helped them address issues a few days ahead of their elections.

He suggested that it was improper to use certain platforms to make allegations without basis because it doesn’t help our course as a country.

He said the key objective is to have peaceful elections, adding that the NPP has since 2008 championed several electoral reforms, called for a credible register, and credible elections.

But was quick to add that although they support the call for a credible register, they will also not run away from C.I. 126 as amended and C.I. 127, which provides guidelines on how to clean the register.

He claimed that the call for a forensic audit of the register by the NDC was a needless distraction.
