'Sooner or later, a woman will become Ghana's President' – John Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has expressed optimism that Ghana will soon elect its first female president, pointing out the rising role of women in government, the judiciary, and other national institutions in the country.

Delivering the keynote address at the High-Level Breakfast Meeting on Financing and Reaffirming Africa’s Gender Commitments, he lauded Ghana’s progress in promoting gender equality.

“Ghana has achieved historic milestones, and today we have a strong presence of women in government, the judiciary, and other national institutions. I am confident that sooner rather than later, a woman will occupy the office of president in Ghana,” President Mahama remarked.

He further indicated that Africa cannot achieve meaningful development if half of its population is left behind.

Mahama to lead AU Summit discussions on reparations and gender equality

Ghana's progress in women empowerment is evident in the growing number of women in top leadership positions, including the Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, appointment of female ministers and heads of key institutions.
