Police on Friday charged Mr Michael Soussoudis, a businessman, for illegal possession of weapons, a source disclosed to the Ghana News Agency in Accra.
The source said he is expected to appear before court soon. The charge follows the discovery of unlicensed arms in his possession last Saturday during a police/military operation code named operation "Etuo mu ye sum" to recover unlicensed weapons.
The operation followed the expiry of a two-week moratorium by the Ministry of the Interior for submission of all unlicensed weapons to either the police or military for an incentive.
The moratorium ended on February 19.Mr Soussoudis was also arrested early this week for going to the house of President John Agyekum Kufuor with a gun on his body.
An arms dealer, Mr Kwame Addo, in whose magazine about 1,000 assorted weapons and ammunition were found, was out of the country at the time of the operation.
