South Korea government promises more support to Ghana

Accra, June 25, GNA - South Korean government is considering a more comprehensive way to support Ghana in a number of development projects including education, Mr Park Young June, the visiting Vice Minister at the Office of the South Korean Prime Minister has said.

Speaking to journalists on Friday in Accra, he mentioned areas such as the establishment of vocational institutions, water projects, construction of a 400 km highway and a sea defence project to enhance Ghana's economic development.

He said Ghanaians would be trained in the vocational institutions, which would be established with emphasis on Information Technology (IT) and Engineering.

Mr Park noted that such expertise for instance would be needed to improve Ghana's water resource management. "The Korean government has decided to give priority of thoughts to Ghana water resources project including areas of electricity and water," he emphasized.

Reacting to som e questions, Mr Alban Bagbin, Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, said both the Opposition and Government were working together to ensure a non-flashy project for the 30,000 housing units to be built for the security sector with assistance from the South Korean Government.

The Housing Project is estimated to cost 1.5 billion US dollars. Earlier, Mr Park called on Ghana's Vice President, Mr John Dramani Mahama at the Castle, Osu.
