Jackpot operations in the South Tongu District Assembly in the Volta Region have been banned, effective Monday, July 25, 2016.

The decision which was taken by a majority voice vote of the Assembly at its second sitting on July 21, 2016 is to save declining standards of education in the 43 communities in the district.

The decision, Kasapafmonline.com understands, was spurred by poor academic results and complaints by parents about the effects of the jackpot on the district.

Failure to comply will attract a spot fine of GH? 500.00 when arrested.

Kofi Mensah who has been following the event told this website that underage children between the ages from 6 to 12 years are heavily involved in this business from dusk to dawn.

“They are stealing money from the parents to play this jackpot and worrying situation is that most of these children don’t even sleep at home. You can only locate them at the various jackpot centers in the community”, he noted.

The ban, he added, has been hailed by all the communities in the district.
