Alhaji Malik Yakubu, the interior minister, has described the spate of lawlessness in Ghana as very freightening. He has warned that government will deal drastically with members of the public who attack security personnel. He has also called on well meaning people in society to condemn such acts in no uncertain terms.

The Minster cited numerous instances where fire service and police personnel as well as utility service providers were assaulted and in the process expensive equipment as well as buildings destroyed.

“This is a country of law and order, with a government based on the rule of law, therefore, no one would be allowed to take the law into his or her own hands. Let me warn that government will deal sternly with such people.”

He appealed to security agencies not to loose their patience in such instances but contunue to discharge their duties for the betterment of the nation. Government will on its part, continue to create a congenial atmosphere for law abiding citizens to go about their duties in a peaceful environment, Alhaji Yakubu noted.
