Accra, Feb. 4, GNA- The Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Peter Ala Adjetey, Wednesday, rebuked Mr. Ernest Atuquaye Armah, NDC- Ga South for improper dressing and ruled that no Member of Parliament would be allowed to come to the House improperly dressed.
The Speaker's action followed a point of order by Mr Armah against Mr. Kwame Osei-Prempeh during the debate of the President's State of the Nation's Address.
Mr. Armah was wearing a white short-sleeved shirt and trousers, which according to a number of MPs the Ghana News Agency (GNA) spoke to, was "woefully improper and incomplete."
Mr. Ala Adjetey said, "members must respect the prescribed dress code for MPs because no member is allowed to put on trousers and any kind of shirt and just enter the chamber and expect to be tolerated." Other members of the house shouted "improper dressing" at the MP, who walked out of the chamber after giving his point of order and did not return till proceeding was over.
Mr. Edward Doe-Adjaho, Minority Chief Whip in an interview with the GNA expressed shock over the MPs dressing and said that, that kind of dressing should have attracted a sack from the chamber. He said the dress code included full suite, political suite, cloth, batakari and traditional wear, adding that simple shirt and trousers, even with a tie for the men and skirt and blouse for the ladies were not allowed.
