Accra, June 11, GNA - The Speaker, Mr. Peter Ala Adjetey, on Friday gave a two-week ultimatum to Chairmen of Parliamentary Committees to submit reports on matters referred to their committees for consideration.
He said he would take action in consultation with the leadership of the House.
The Speaker said there were several outstanding reports before committees, which are yet to be brought before the House.
"People are simply not working as expected of them," the Speaker said adding that, some matters had been pending for months.
Mr Ala Adjetey was speaking in support of Mr Kosi Kedem, NDC-Hohoe South, who had earlier reacted to the Business Statement presented by Mr Felix Owusu-Adjapong, the Majority Leader.
Mr Owusu-Adjapong had reminded the House and Leadership of committees that it had become "necessary for Leaders of committees to expedite action on their respective referrals as a matter of urgency".
"Mr Speaker, there are a number of referrals which are still pending before the various committees and judging from the paucity of time available for this meeting, it has become necessary to remind all leadership of the committees to expedite action on their respective referrals as a matter of urgency", the Majority Leader explained. Mr Ala Adjetey said he would consult with the leadership to bring serious actions against Chairmen, who did not submit outstanding report within the two-weeks ultimatum.
Mr Osei-Kyei Mensah Bonsu, the Majority Chief Whip, reminded the Members that 104 questions had been slated for Ministers, who would be appearing before the House and, therefore, urged that more work should be done in every given week since Parliament was likely to sit for only six weeks during this session.
