Special Advisors Earning More Than MPs

Thu, 9 Jan 2003 Source: EVENING NEWS

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Mr. Alban Bagbin, has alleged that Special Advisors and Personal Assistants to the President, Ministers and DCEs of the Kufuor Administration draw salaries over and above that of MPs.

He said while MPs are on salary range 108, Special Advisors and Personnal Assistants are on range 110, (a monthly salary of 18,824,960 cedis approx. $2300) subject to any adjustment that might be approved for the public sector.

Hon. Bagbin produced a document with the inscription ?Parliamentary Questions No. 269? outlining all the responses of the Information Minister, to buttress his points.

He was responding to questions from members of the Upper West branch of the Tertiary Educational Institutions Network (TEIN) of the NDC, on what the terms of conditions of service were for the numerous Special Assistants recruited by the Kufuor Administration.

Meanwhile, the Editor of the EVENING NEWS in a statement published in the Ghanaian Times of January 9, has stated that the monthly salary of ?18,824,960 should have read salary range of ?18,824,960 or the maximum of Range 110, subject to any adjustment that may be approved for the public sector.

The error was attributed to Minority leader, Mr. Alban Bagbin.
