Accra, Dec. 4 GNA - Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, one of the aspirants vying for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer-ship on Monday filed his nomination papers at the Party Headquarters in Accra. He also presented a cheque of one hundred million cedis as his nomination fees and an endorsement form bearing the signatures of two members each from all the 230 constituencies to the National Executive of the NDC as required by the party's constitution.

This brings to two the number of persons who have filed to contest the NDC flag bearer-ship, with Mr Eddie Annan being the first aspirant to file his nominations last Thursday.

Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of the NDC, who received the nomination papers of the Dr Spio-Garbrah said the party had established clear guidelines and procedures on how to choose its flag bearer-ship.

He said the party had put in place measures to ensure that the process was transparent and devoid of any acrimony from any quarters. Mr Asiedu Nketia also explained the party's position on the National Executive members saying that any members who would want to contest for a position or support a candidate would have to resign his post from the party.

Briefing the media after filing his papers, Dr. Spio-Garbrah said his tour and interactions with delegates around the country had convinced him that he would be the preferred choice of the delegates since their expectation of a flag bearer resonates with his qualities, experience and qualification.

He said most NDC delegates would prefer a leader who was charismatic in his approach and understands the current state of the party, why it was where it was today, and how it could be built and re-branded to win power convincingly in the 2008 elections. He said any candidate who would want to lead the NDC must not just show a clear workable vision and strategic blueprint for the party's electoral success but also one that could quickly reverse the unbridled economic decay in Ghana today.

He said most delegates were also looking for somebody who stands the best chance of unifying all factions and interest groups within the NDC, especially those who have chosen to sit on the sidelines since 2000 because they felt aggrieved, marginalized, unappreciated or had not been put to the best use in the 2000 and 2004 campaigns. Dr Spio-Garbrah further stated that as part of his campaign strategy, he had provided delegates with the relevant information and his vision for the party, Ghana and the Presidency.
