Spiritualist, four other in court for fraud

Accra, May 01, GNA-Nana Asumbe, aka Motia (Dwarf) father, a spiritualist and four others who allegedly collected GH¢3,600 from a mason under the pretext of multiplying the amount four fold but failed to do so on Thursday appeared before a Circuit Court charged with conspiracy and defrauding by false pretences.

The court did not take the pleas of Asumbe and his assistants - Alex Konadu, Malik Jabel, Kwame Adu Twum and Ernest Darko- and remanded them into Police custody to reappear on May 8 to enable police to continue investigations.

According to the prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) E.Y. Frimpong two more people have lodged a similar complaint against the accused persons.

The prosecutor told the court, presided over Mr. D.E.K. Daketsey that the accused person went to an Accra-based FM station to announce to the whole world that they multiplied money four fold. When the complainant, Joseph Agbeko, who resides at Cape Coast, heard about it he went to the radio station and he was directed to the accused persons.

The prosecution said the accused made him pay GH¢3,600 and asked that he should purchase some items for spiritual purposes.

However, after producing the money and the items the accused persons failed to multiply the money.

The prosecution said the accused person also failed to give him back his money.
