Cape Coast, June 02, GNA - A self-styled spiritualist and a herbalist, Benjamin Christian Ashun, 22, was on Friday remanded by a circuit court at Cape coast for defrauding one Mr Kweku Aboagye of 13 million cedis.

He pleaded not guilty and would reappear on June 16. Prosecuting, Chief inspector Augustine Amonoo told the court that in February Mr Aboagye, a mobile phone dealer, asked Ashun to assist him to solve his financial problems. He said Ashun agreed to help him and told him about people he had helped in Cape Coast.

He told Mr Aboagye to give him 6.2 million cedis to enable him prepare a magic concoction to put in his room and that this would yield more money later.

Chief Inspector Amonoo said Mr Aboagye gave the money and the concoction was prepared for him but after some days, he did not get the money as the spiritualist promised.

He said Mr Aboagye again went to Ashun but he (Ashun) convinced him to part with an additional 2 million cedis and later collected 5 million cedis to enable the concoction to work faster.

Chief inspector Amonoo said after sometime, Mr Aboagye realized that Ashun was playing tricks on him and reported the matter to the police and he was arrested. He said in his caution statement, Ashun admitted the offence and pleaded with the police to give him some time to refund the money but failed to do so. 02 June 06
