Takoradi Jul 04, GNA - Mr Kofi Frimpong, Executive Director of the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission, on Wednesday called on the private sector to invest in the Ankasa Conservation Reserve, in the Jomoro District.
He made the call at the launching of sponsorship and fund-raising for this year's International Ecotourism Festival (ECOFEST), in Takoradi.
The festival that is being organised by the ECOFESR Foundation is under the theme, "Water is Life" and would take place in Takoradi from October 14 to 16.
Mr Frimpong said the support of the private sector was needed to develop the existing accommodation, reception and restaurant facilities at the reserve to attract more visitors.
He said the reserve had the highest variation of biological diversity of both plants and animals, in the whole country.
Launching the sponsorship and fund-raising, Mr Kofi Sekyi-Armah, a member of the Board of ECOFEST Foundation, said every effort should be made to perverse the country's ecology and biodiversity.
He said the country was losing its precious animal and plant species while water bodies were being polluted because of reckless disregard for the environment.
Mr Sekyi-Armah who is a retired Chief Director of the Ministry of Information, urged the people to preserve the environment to help revise the situation.
