Accra, July 27 GNA - A Circuit Court in Accra was thrown into laughter when a man accused of defiling an 11 year-old-girl told the Court that he defiled the girl because he was mad.
When the Judge asked Frank Henidza, the accused how he got to know that he was mad, Henidza replied: "My Lord, I knew previously that I had been mad for some time."
The Court sentenced Henidza to 10 years' imprisonment with hard labour. Henidza remarked again that the sentence was too harsh. His plea for leniency was not taken.
Prosecuting, Detective Inspector Ivy Agadza said the victim stayed in the same area with Henidza.
She said about three weeks ago, the girl went to toilet in the night and while returning home met Henidza.
Henidza without any word held the girl, took her to an abandoned car under a shed and forcibly defiled her.
The Prosecutor said Henidza during the course of the act warned the victim not tell anybody else he would kill her.
She said the victim later reported the incident to her mother who also lodged a complaint at the Women and Juvenile Unit (WAJU) of the Police.
A medical test on the on victim confirmed the defilement. Henidza admitted the offence during interrogation, but said the victim told him that she was 14 years old.
