Former Minister in charge of Lands and Resources, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini has claimed responsibility for the installation of a secret audio/video recording device discovered in the office of his successor, John Peter Amewu.

According to him, there was a need for the device to be installed at the time as part of measures to provide security since it was around the same period he had initiated the fight against galamsey. The device was to serve the purpose of monitoring activities that occurred inside his office in his absence.

That was my personal property. …As a minister, I had started the fight against galamsey…that was an investment in my own security. Kumbour had been shot during the time we came into office and I had been advised by National Security to leave my private residence at Ridge and move into government residence in town. So I was doing that to ensure that I monitor people who were coming into my office in my presence and in my absence.”

After coming under several attacks and trolls, the former Minister rendered an apology for his actions. His justification however was the fact that the device though installed was not even serving its purpose as the person contracted to install it at the time didn’t complete the process, making the device unusable.

“It is true that I was installing it in 2013; but we never got around to completing the installation and so that is why the national security did the swoop in the office they didn’t pick any signal because it’s not working.”

“Somebody was doing it [for me] but I didn’t have time.

While doing it he needed me in the office but I didn’t have time so he couldn’t complete it", he explained.

The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs however won’t take the excuse of the former minister. He, following the former minister’s submission slammed him. For him, it shouldn’t have been a thought in the first place for Inusah Fuseini. On the contrary, he believes if the minister wanted to provide security for himself as he claimed, he should have contacted the office of the National Security to do so.

“It is wrong for the Minister to do that…it did not lie under his purview to do that, if he wanted security protection, he should have contacted National Security…,” he said.

The National Security on Monday, July 10, 2017 uncovered the secretly planted audio-visual recorder in a huge Coat of Arms plaque hanging in the Minister’s office.

The ‘spying’ set up included a camera, a storage unit and another device suspected to be a transmitter.

It is believed to be able to pick a whisper 35-feet away.
