ST. LOUIS Secondary School, the only Catholic girls school in the Ashanti Region, this Saturday, hold its Golden Jubilee celebration in Kumasi.
In line with this, a week-long programme of activities has been planned to round off the celebration.
These activities are a clean-up exercise in some parts of the Kumasi city, cultural display and choral day by the school and other selected schools, such as St. Peter's Secondary School, St. Mary's Secondary School and Yaa Asantewaa Secondary School.
The rest of the activities include funfare, inauguration of a visual art block, unveiling of bust, naming of a new dormitory block, sod-cutting ceremony and speech and prize-giving day.
In a chat with the Chronicle, the headmistress of the school, Miss. Johanna C. Johnson, noted that the line-up of activities for the week is to get both the general public and other schools to participate in the celebration.
She stressed with pride that the school, established 50 years ago, had since been the best in the northern sector in terms of academic excellence, discipline and hardwork.
When asked about the contributions of the PTA and the Old Students to the development of the school, the headmistress disclosed that the PTA had donated a 38-seater Benz bus, a generator, a sick bay and a bungalow for the school nurse.
The PTA had also instituted an award as incentive for teachers and students and also employed four security men for the school. A dormitory block which would take about 250 students is being undertaken by the PTA, she said.
According to her, the old students had also contributed by building a 10-unit water closet, a fence wall and a bust for the first headmistress of the school.
In addition, the old students have built an auditorium as a jubilee project at the cost of ?1.2 billion for the school.
Miss Johanna said a parent who had had five of his daughters pass out successfully in the school, had also built an Art block to show his appreciation to the school.
She commended the PTA, particularly all the previous chairmen and the present one as well as old students, for their immense contributions.
Ms. Johnson called on the general public and the old students to come in their numbers to make the celebration a success.
