Stanbic Bank supports SOS Children’s Village

Stanbic Bank has adopted two family houses at the Socialis Sociata (SOS) Children’s Village. The bank presented a cheque for GH¢60,000 to support the upkeep of the children.

The SOS Children’s Village has four campuses. Located in Tema; the oldest campus houses 129 children, another in Asiakwa houses 112, while the others in Kumasi and Tamale house 115 and 102 children respectively.

The village has a number of family houses, each of which comprise a mother, an aunt and a maximum of 10 children. Stanbic Bank has adopted one house in Asiakwa and another in Tamale.

Kojo Akoi-Larbi, Manager, Communications at Stanbic Bank, said the initiative is one in a series of corporate social interventions with which the bank intends to mark this season of love.

He explained this is an employee community engagement initiative, which complements Stanbic Bank’s culture of sharing and protecting the vulnerable.

“We have a policy at Stanbic Bank wherein we encourage staff to identify causes they want to support and contribute toward them,” he said. “The bank then matches whatever the staff is able to gather.”

Alexander Kekula, National Director of the Village, lauded the bank for its support. He called for a deeper partnership, whereby students will be granted training and internship opportunities at the bank.

Stanbic Bank is committed to creating prosperity and giving back to the people of Ghana. It provides social support in education, sports development, the agricultural sector, poverty relief, health and environmental protection.

The bank pledged constant support for the two houses it has adopted; its staff also intends to frequently visit and mentor the children in these homes.

“We believe in your cause; we like the fact that you are helping the vulnerable in society and we are going to support you every step of the way,” Akoi-Larbi said. “We are not only concerned about doing business in society, we also like giving back to society; giving back is what makes it possible for us to belong.”
