A video footage has emerged showing how passengers were being rescued and conveyed from the accident scene in a fire truck amidst heavy rains.

The Starbow Airline aircraft, ATR72-500 with registration number 9G-SBF on a flight from Accra to Kumasi on Saturday overshot the runway at the Kotoka International Airport as it attempted takeoff.

The plane with 63 passengers and five crew members ended up in the fencing around the airport, leaving dozens of passengers traumatized.

A joint statement issued by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) and Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said one person had sustained a minor injury and was under investigation.

Also, the Bureau of Public Safety (BPS) has expressed disgust at Saturday’s incident at the Kotoka International Airport, blaming it on the Ministry of Transport and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

According to BPS, the incident only draws Ghana closer to “witnessing a national disaster”.

It says safety reports of the International Civil Aviation Organisation for 2015 and 2016 points in that direction.

Meanwhile, Starbow has taken a decision to suspend operations at least for now.
