Professor Joshua Alabi has called on young Ghanaians to begin their journeys with the resources at hand, remain dedicated, and give their best in every endeavour.

The call came during his acceptance of an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on December 4, where he reflected on his own journey from a student at the then Institute of Professional Studies in 1976 to becoming the first Vice-Chancellor of the university.

Speaking to a gathering, Professor Alabi emphasised the importance of commitment and resilience in achieving success. “To the young people here: do not wait for perfect conditions. Start where you are. Use what you have. Give your best. Hard work may delay, but it never goes unheard,” he said.

Professor Alabi also recounted the early challenges he faced as a student, including limited resources and a year-long closure of the institute, noting that determination and consistent effort were key to overcoming obstacles.

He encouraged youth to embrace discipline, teamwork, and integrity, highlighting that success is built gradually through persistence and dedication rather than instant results.

The veteran academic and former Vice-Chancellor further stressed that recognition and rewards often follow consistent hard work, even if delayed, and urged young people to remain focused on long-term goals.

Professor Alabi expressed gratitude to God, his family, colleagues, students, and alumni for their support throughout his career, reinforcing that true leadership and success are measured by the lives touched and the legacy left behind.
