State Funeral held for the late Edward Salia

A state funeral for the late Edward Kojo Salia, former MP for Jirapa constituency in the Upper West Region was held this morning at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra. Present at the service were President John Evans Atta Mills, Vice President John Mahama, the Chief Justice Mrs. Georgina wood, the Speaker of Parliament, Mrs Joyce Banford Addo, the Chief Justice Mrs. Georgina Wood, the Chairman of the Council of State Professor Kofi Awoonor, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament and other dignitaries.

In a tribute read by the Minister of Transport, Mike Hammah, President Mills recounted the numerous projects Mr Salia initiated while he was a Minister of State and his contribution to the NDC’s success.

President Mills noted that the late Minister served his country to the best of his ability and hoped others would emulate his hardwork.

The Catholic Bishop of Wa diocese, Most Rev. Bamile in a sermon noted that death is inevitable, but the most important thing is for one to know Christ before death. He added that life is not about how much wealth one has or how far one’s name travels.

The Most Rev. Bamile expressed the hope that the election to be conducted in the Jirapa constituency where the late Minister served would be peaceful, stressing that, the scramble for the constituency should not be a do and die affair.

Tribute were read for the wife, Mrs. Mary Salia, the Chairman of the NDC, Dr. Kwabena Adjei, the Speaker of Parliament and the youngest daughter Emmanuella Salia for the children.
