Most Reverend Peter Akwasi Sarpong Archbishop Emeritus of the Kumasi Diocese has kicked against calls for the state to fund political parties in the country following concerns of inadequate resources especially for the opposition parties.

“People must understand what politics is all about, it is about looking for the best person to in the constituency to go to parliament or the best person to be the president. Why should government spend money on them?” He asked.

According to him, what is required by candidates is to be able to convince the electorate about their ability to represent them and implement good policies and programmes that can inure to their benefit.

He explained that agreeing to such a proposition could further heighten corrupt practices in politics in the country and therefore stated categorically that it should not be endorsed If Ghana is indeed charting the true path of democracy.

He maintained that the candidates seeking to represent the people do not need to spend money in outlining their vision to the masses and there is completely flawed for such a proposition to be hailed.

“For me, it is waste of money”, he concluded.
