Accra, Nov. 13, GNA - The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) on Monday donated goods and money totalling 17 million cedis to the Countryside Orphanage at Bawjiase in the Central Region.

The items included assorted food items - ten bags of rice, two bags of sugar, a bag of maize, fruits, beverages and toiletries worth seven million cedis and ten million cedis cash.

Presenting the items on behalf of the Service, the Acting Government Statistician, Professor N. N. N. Nsowah-Nuamah said the donation forms part of activities earmarked for the celebration of this year's Statistical Service Week.

The Week, on the general theme: "Up Scaling Statistical Service's Role in Statistical Planning for Dynamic Development" would be used to raise awareness on the importance of statistics in national development. The items were received jointly by Madam Emma Boafo Yeboah and Captain Joe Yeboah (RTD) founders of the home. They commended the Statistical Service for the donation and appealed to other philanthropist and organisations to support efforts to enhance the living condition of the street and abandoned children. The Home provides shelter for about 137 children and employs 38 teaching and non-teaching staff.
