A 22-year-old thief has told the Tema Police that he makes a living by stealing because he is unemployed and also has to enjoy life like his peers.

The suspect, Norbert Nyake, said this when he appeared before the Tema Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Beatrice Zakpa Vib-Sanziri.

Nyake was grabbed with a black school bag containing two iron cutters, a pair of scissors and machete, as well as a Samsung, a Blackberry and two HTC mobile phones.

Briefing a section of the media, DCOP Vib-Sanziri said at about 1am on Thursday, April 10, the suspect was spotted with the school bag around his shoulder at Gbetsile.

She said Nyake was arrested and admitted during interrogation that he used those implements retrieved from him to gain access into his victims’ rooms.

DCOP Vib-Sanziri said the suspect later took the police to the residence of two of his victims at Mataheko in the Kpone-Katamanso District, where he demonstrated how he used his implements to gain access into their rooms to steal their properties.

A victim who was at home at the time of the visit by the police confirmed being robbed of his phones through a window that was damaged.

Nyake, the Tema Police boss said, has been charged with stealing, unlawful entry, causing damage and committing crime.
