The two-week old baby who was stolen from the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has been found upon a tip-off to the police at Korle Bu.

Korle-Bu District Police Commander, Mr. Abraham Apuyini, told DAILY GUIDE the baby was found at Assin Foso in the Central region on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 after extensive media publicity.

According to him, the police received a phone call from a certain man who claimed to know Auntie Ataa, the woman who bought the baby from Jacinta Oduro Kwarteng, the baby thief.

The man then made a phone call to Auntie Ataa who admitted she was planning to take the baby to a village called Quarshie near Asamankese in the Eastern region but had a change of mind when she realized the police were gradually closing in on her following the story’s publication.

She directed them to a location at Assin Foso where she was going to dump the baby for them to go for it.

The police at Korle-Bu quickly contacted their colleagues at Assin Foso who said a private security man had reportedly found a baby by a kiosk near the bank where he was on duty.

The baby had then been taken to the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Hospital in the area.

ASP Apusuyini then dispatched a team of investigators to Assin Foso, together with the missing baby’s mother, Millicent Williams, who went to the place and identified the baby as hers.

Even though the baby’s buyer, Auntie Ataa, is currently at large, her hunt is still pending since the discovery of the baby does not exculpate her.

She is believed to be hiding somewhere in Kumasi whilst her partner in crime, Jacinta, who sold the baby to her for GH¢300 is set to be prosecuted by the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.

The baby was stolen at the KBTH on Monday, January 31, 2011, when her 24-year-old mother was swindled by Jacinta who claimed she was a nurse.

She subsequently sold the baby to Auntie Ataa who fled with the baby until information finally led to her location.
