The Awukudae celebration in Akwapim-Akropong was marred by violence on April 8, 2026, after the Okuapehemea was reportedly pelted with stones during the traditional event.

Viral videos circulating on social media captured chaotic scenes as unidentified individuals hurled stones in the direction of the queen mother, forcing a disruption of the ceremony and raising fresh concerns about escalating tensions in the area.

The incident is believed to be linked to a protracted chieftaincy dispute in Akropong, which has divided sections of the community and heightened insecurity in recent weeks.

A member of the Concerned Citizens of Akropong, Nana Eddie Akuffo, alleged that the Okuapehemaa has not enstooled any paramount chief, insisting that the matter remains before the courts.

According to the resident, some individuals involved in the dispute have refused to comply with directives, thereby deepening the impasse.

He called on traditional authorities, the Judicial Service, and security agencies to intervene swiftly to restore calm and ensure that due process is respected.

The stone-throwing incident comes before a police operation targeting suspects captured in the viral videos.

In a related development, a suspected key figure linked to the clashes was shot dead on April 10, 2026, during a gun battle with police, as part of efforts to clamp down on those behind the disturbances.
