Accra (Greater Accra) 13 Jan. '99

The Ministry of Lands and Forestry will pay more attention to difficulties associated with gaining access to and obtaining security of title to land to enhance public confidence in the operation of the Land Title Registry.

It will also pursue a policy of inter-agency co- operation in practical terms among, land delivery agencies in resolving outstanding land issues facing the public and state institutions.

Dr Christina Amoako-Nuama, the sector Minister, said this at the opening of a three-day conference for senior officers of the Land Commission and Office of the Administrator of Stool Lands in Accra today.

Thirty-eight officers from the Land Valuation Board, Land Title Registry, Survey Department, Administrator of Stool Lands, Forestry Commission and Lands Commission are participating.

She said through the inter-agency mechanism, the ministry has successfully supervised the smooth transfer of responsibility of collection and payment of timber loyalties, hitherto exercised by the forestry department, to the office of Administrator of Stool Lands.

''Another achievement through this mechanism is the recent agreement

concluded with the Minerals Commission. With effect from this month mineral royalties which hitherto have been managed by the Minerals Commission will be taken over and distributed to the stools by the office of Administrator of Stool Lands''.

Dr Amoako-Nuama said the ministry will establish a joint committee of

Administrator of Stool Lands, Regional Lands Commissions and Lands Commission to consult with chiefs and stools through their respective houses of chiefs in all matters relating to the administration and development of stool lands.

The Minister expressed the hope that this will bring some discipline in land administration.
