Stop behaving like pressure groups – Methodist priest slams pastors

The Superintendent Minister of the Calvary Methodist Church at Amakom in the Kumasi Metropolis, Rt. Rev. Stephen Bosomtwi-Ayensu has slammed some pastors who are mounting pressure on the government to consider lifting the ban on public and social congregations, even as cases of the novel coronavirus continue to rise.

Over the weekend, MyNewsGh.com intercepted and published a document that detailed how churches intended to adhere to safety protocols at their premises should the ban be lifted, a day before the president’s address on Sunday night.

The document which had been signed by the Christian Council of Ghana, the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, the Catholic Bishop Conference and the Association of Christian and Charismatic Churches, was purported to have been tabled before the president for consideration.

The founder and leader of the Life Assembly Worship Centre and leader of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Rev. Christian K Andrews a.k.a Osofo Kyiriabosom had also said God would punish the president if he didn’t allow churches to begin to congregate.

But speaking with Kwame Tanko on 'Angel In The Morning' on Monday, Rt.Rev. Bosomtwe Ayensu said those pastors are behaving like pressure groups and are doing so because they are losing out on offerings and tithes.

He said the president must rather be praised for the leadership he has so far shown in the fight against the disease and pray that God intervenes, as soon as possible.

Ghana’s latest confirmed data on COVID-19 stands at 4,700 recorded cases; 4,184 total active cases; 494 recoveries; and 22 deaths.

The Greater Accra region leads with 3,892 cases, followed by the Ashanti region with 355 cases.
